Introduction

Andrew Cook didn’t start dancing until he was 14 years old. Seeing Fred Astaire in the film ‘Holiday Inn. sent Andrew straight into a pair of Tap shoes, and saw him have his first ballet class aged 15 at his local school - Newall School of Dance, Otley. Barely a year later Andrew was accepted into multiple Ballet schools, whereupon he chose to attend Ballet West in Scotland. During his three years there, he received Distinction level results in every RAD examination, was a semi-finalist in the Adeline Genee International Ballet Competition, and had the opportunity to perform with Ballet West’s professional touring company.

Graduating in 2014, aged 19 years old, Andrew was accepted into Vienna Festival Ballet company, where he began his touring contract having just turned 20. Not only was Andrew able to work with this exceptional UK company, but also received Soloist roles during their Winter tour of 2014, performing such solos as the Russian from Nutcracker, Spanish divert from Swan Lake, and many more.

Andrew has also had the pleasure of returning to Ballet West to work as both a member of their professional touring company, and as a teacher. As well as having the privilege to once again perform Soloist roles within a company, he found teaching full-time vocational students rewarding, able to share his own, recent professional experiences and tips with those aspiring dancers.

Andrew is currently working with Macedonian National Ballet at the moment, where they are currently performing the world premiere of ‘Cleopatra’. This large production is being choreographed by world-renowned choreographer Vasili Medvedev, and created on the cast. Andrew will be performing as a Soloist with the company.
